Several deadlines are approaching. Parents and students should be aware of the following:

5/24 (Th) DUE: Section Leader Application for WMB Fall 2012. Available on bulletin by Band Room doors.
5/30 (We) DUE: Band Letter Award Application for 2011-12. Available on this site under ‘Forms.’
7/1 (Su) DUE: $100 marching band deposit. Available on this site under ‘Forms.’

Grand Floral Parade

All Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble & Colorguard members:

7 parade practices have been scheduled in preparation for the Portland Grand Floral Parade. These occur outside of the school day because it involves the combined effort of all band and guard students at Westview. Please ensure these dates are added to your home calendar quickly! Contact the director if there are conflicts or concerns.

Wind Ensemble Auditions

Auditions for the 2012-13 Wind Ensemble are approaching. All band students are encouraged to try out. The only sure way to not make it is to not audition! Students should sign up in the band hallway for a 10-minute slot after school in the next two weeks…

-April 23-27: Returning members audition (current 10-11 graders already in WE)
-April 30-May 4: New members audition (current 9-10 graders in CB & SB)

Students need to bring two items with them to their audition (both of these are available on this website under ‘Forms’)
1) Audition Philosophy & Agreement Packet
2) Academic Update (as an OSAA-competing ensemble, WE students must be in good academic standing)

Finally, students can find the required scales and excerpts for their instrument in the band room. Make sure you use your time wisely and prepare your best audition possible! Best of luck!

Itinerary: Metro League Band (Wind Ensemble Only)

WWE will travel to Sunset HS on Tuesday, April 10. Before leaving Westview, the ensemble will rehearse in the band room for approximately one hour. Students are excused from periods, 1, 3, 5 and 7.

Marching Season Deposit (New for 2012)

Due by June 1: $100 Deposit

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
2012 Wildcat Marching Band Fall Season Deposit
Payment of deposit guarantees you a spot in the drill.

Why is this fee being instituted?
Band Camp is a valuable experience. In order to maximize the quality of Band Camp and care for the success of the WMB from an organizational and competitive standpoint, staff and volunteers should know who is planning on marching so they can write music and conceptualize drill over the summer. Our food, uniform and t-shirt committees can also plan more effectively.

Is this a new fee?
No – if you pay by June 1. If you pay after June 1, there will be a $20 late registration fee in addition to your band fees. The $100 is a deposit toward your annual band fees. In 2011-12, fee amounts were $150 class fee + $240 marching band fee. Which leads us to the next question…

What if my child chooses not to march, or cannot march due to an injury?
Your $100 will be applied toward his/her class fee or kept as a credit on your account to pay for future fees (such as winter guard or percussion fees).

I don’t know if I want to march yet. Do I have to decide now?
We would prefer that you do! Doing so allows us to build our program with YOU in mind. The more we know about our membership, the more we can plan; the more we plan, the more enjoyable, successful and memorable the band season can be.

Can I fundraise to pay this deposit?
Yes. Pay with SCRIP by contacting Stacy Stricker (westviewband.org, “Contact Us”) or by participating in one of our numerous fundraising opportunities throughout the year. Current 8th grade families are welcome to sign up for SCRIP as long as they plan to be in band and/or march.

Additionally, the Wildcat Band & Auxiliary Parent Organization annually budgets to provide partial scholarships (up to half the tuition) for students with the most financial need. Visit our website to download the scholarship eligibility requirements and application form. Submit the application by September 15, 2012, for first consideration.
